4th Year Elective Rotation (UF Students)
Family Medicine Ambulatory Care Elective – Jacksonville (CM E 1J)
The Family Medicine Ambulatory Elective is an outpatient medicine experience at UF Health Family Medicine in Jacksonville clinics. The goals are to provide a high-volume ambulatory experience, which allows students to see 8-12 patients per day, and involve students as much as possible in delivering health care to the patients they encounter. Students will usually have first contact with the patient (before an attending has seen the patient), independently perform a focused evaluation, formulate an assessment, and propose a treatment strategy when they present the patient to the attending. The elective medicine rotation may be selected for a two or four-week period. Duty hours are from 7:45 am to approximately 5:00 pm each weekday, and schedules for a typical week include direct patient care each morning and afternoon session. Students will be assigned to faculty in the family medicine clinic. The faculty member assigned most often to each student provides formal feedback and final evaluation reports.
Primary Care Sports Medicine – Jacksonville (CM E 2J)
The Primary Care Sports Medicine Elective is a 2- or 4-week outpatient medicine experience at the UF Health Family Medicine Wildlight Clinic in Jacksonville. This elective will provide a general overview to primary care sports medicine. Students will be exposed to outpatient diagnosis and treatment, care and evaluation of common musculoskeletal complaints, medical problems unique to the athlete, sideline coverage, musculoskeletal imaging, injection procedures, casting, care of high school and collegiate athletes. Students will independently interview and examine patients, and present their findings. Clinical encounters range from pediatric to adult, and acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries. This elective is designed for students interested in gaining additional knowledge about musculoskeletal medicine, the complete care of the athlete and the specialty of primary care sports medicine.
